*** This year, 2025, there will be 5 scholarships awarded and each will be $2000.***
In 1984 the Albany County Cow-Belles established a scholarship fund. The fund was established with memorials in memory of Nina Wright, long time ranch woman and mother of Shirley Lilley. A scholarship of $400 was awarded in 1984. Since then, the scholarships have increased to $2000 a piece and at least three are given out each year. Over this time, we have given out over 100 scholarships worth more than $120,000.
In 1988 we held the first Cow-Belle Scholarship auction. Auction items are donated by the membership. This continues to be an annual event to benefit the scholarship fund. It is usually held at the Albany County CattleWomen meeting in November. Funds for the scholarship also come from memorials given in memory of friends and family.
